ABATE of Indiana Inc. Board of Directors Meeting
June 14, 2008 --- Lawrence County Recreational Park, Springville, IN

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors resumed at 4:30pm. In addition to the Board members, those present were: State Office-Kim Tyger and Tina McCormack, LINC-Mike Meyer, Security-Bob Coffey, Region 13-Aaron Meyer, and Ad Com-Gary Williams.

The Board of Directors meeting opened with executive session at 2:10pm. Those present were: Region 00-Teresa Bodle, Region 01-Al Putman, Region 02-Dave Frost, Region 04-Robin Christianson, Region 05-Joe Adams, Region 06-David Polanco, Region 07-Dennis Tyger, Region 08-Terry Penn, Region 09-Jason Cissell, Region 10-Lenny Stancombe, Region 11-Carl Brown, Region 12-David Hawkins, Region 13-Skip Willis, Ad Com-Gino Johnson and Rod Taylor, State Office-Jay Jackson. (Al Putman had to leave during executive session) Everyone rose for the Pledge of Allegiance.

During executive session, the BOD interviewed potential candidates for the Administrative Assistant position. The BOD hired Gary Williams to fill the position. There were two abstentions and two region directors were absent.

Lisa Miller addressed the board concerning AFLAC insurance.

ITEM 1: Dennis stated that Jay would be covering the topics that Ad Com covered during other sections on the agenda. (Moto GP, LCRP, Admin Asst.)

Tina stated that she had not received any questions from the board concerning January and February financials. She handed out financials for March and April along with the dash board and a cover sheet outlining the reports. Discussion followed.

Teresa stated that she did not receive the extended financials from last meeting although other board members did. Tina stated that Kim mailed them to her with the minutes and financials from that meeting.

The board agreed that ABATE should obtain a license from ATC for the Boogie.

ITEM 2: Lenny addressed the board concerning two members that displayed conduct unbecoming a member at an event. He will be sending letters to each individual stating that their membership will be suspended per the by-laws.

LCRP has had some good weekends with riders/campers. The trails are in need of some repair. Rick Toy continues to work on mapping the trails and setting up GPS coordinates. Jay hopes to get Indiana Cross Country Racing to work with us on this project.

Gary believes that the valve in the shower house has been repaired as it had cracked.

Roger continues to bale the hay off the property for his cows. All areas are mowed before the Boogie.

ITEM 3: Jay said that Marc needs State Charity information from Regions 03, 06, 09 and 10. The magazine is going to print this week.

ITEM 4: On the state level, Senator John Waterman, a friend of the organization is considering throwing in a bid for the Gubernatorial race as a third party candidate. Should he be successful, he could pull votes from the other two candidates.

Nationally, Frank Lautenberg was successful in his primary in New Jersey.

Jay stated that he and a couple other members were invited to ride with the Governor to an energy announcement in Fowler. Governor Daniels took time during his presentation to remind everyone that May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month and asked them to watch out for “his friends out there on two wheels”.

Jay has had two meetings with the BMV concerning changing Indiana code in 2009 concerning licensing, mopeds, etc. Discussion followed.

ITEM 5: Jay thanked everyone in Region 06 for their assistance in finding a site in Ellettsville.

Jay is currently authorized to train examiners for the AltMOST. He hopes to have more chief examiners in place by August.

NHTSA program assessment is next week. They are slated to interview about 45 people within the motorcycling community and put together a report.

We have received 150 helmets from Harley-Davidson to distribute to safety programs through the MRF.

Jay thanked those that came out to help with the Miracle Ride.

He stated that he will have more information at a later date about the ICJI crash facts.

The billboards and media announcements for Motorcycle Safety and Awareness were discussed.

Anyone truly interested in helping with Moto GP needs to let Jay know. Around 100 volunteers are needed at any given time during the event. Areas to be covered are: gear check, downtown parking/safety, Broadripple, and on track with vehicle and rider recovery. Four blocks of Meridian Street will be closed off for motorcycle only traffic.

Jay shared a newspaper article where a motorcyclist leaving one of our events was involved in an accident leaving one of our events. Jay advised that we need to continue to police our own people.

ITEM 6: Tina asked that early list be sent to her this week. Discussion followed.

Motion 1: Terry Penn made a motion to accept the January and February financials. David Polanco seconded the motion. Region 00 abstained. All others present voted yes. Motion carried.

Motion 2: Terry Penn made the motion to adjourn. Dave Hawkins seconded the motion.
Vote was unanimous. Motion carried.
